India Whitman
VP Communications Candidate
Campaign Platform
My name is India Whitman, and I’m running for VP Communications.
Last year, I was the VP of Marketing on my residence floor, where I was responsible for managing our social media and promoting events. In that role, I didn’t just post for the sake of posting—I made sure that what I shared actually reached people, kept them informed, and got them interested in what was happening. I learned very quickly that good communication isn’t just about putting information out there, it’s about making sure people actually see it, understand it, and care about it.
That’s the mindset I want to bring to this role.

One of the biggest challenges in any school community is making sure everyone feels informed and included. There are always events, opportunities, and important updates happening, but they don’t always reach students in a way that sticks. I want to change that by making our social media more active, more engaging, and more reliable. Students shouldn’t have to search for information or hear about things last minute—they should be able to count on our platforms to keep them updated.
A big part of that is consistency. I plan to post regularly and ahead of time so students always know what’s going on. Whether it’s promoting events, sharing reminders, or highlighting opportunities, everything will be clear, organized, and easy to understand. When communication is consistent, people start to trust it—and that’s what builds a stronger, more connected community.

At the same time, I want our social media to feel less like a notice board and more like something students actually enjoy following. That means creating content that is not only informative, but also engaging. Things like interactive polls, student shoutouts, and posts that highlight what’s happening in our school can make a big difference. Social media should reflect the students it represents, and I want to make sure more voices are being seen and recognized.

Another thing I bring to this role is reliability and strong time management. I’m someone who stays on top of my responsibilities and makes sure things are done properly and on time. From my experience, I know that communication only works when it’s consistent and well-organized. Missing posts or late updates can lead to people feeling disconnected or uninformed, and that’s something I will actively work to prevent.

I also understand the importance of working as part of a team. As VP Communications, I would be working closely with other council members to promote their events and initiatives. I will make sure their ideas are communicated clearly and effectively so that they reach as many students as possible. Good communication supports everything else that FASA does, and I want to help strengthen that.
At the end of the day, this role is about more than just running an account. It’s about making sure students feel connected to what’s happening around them. When communication is done well, it brings people together, increases participation, and helps create a stronger sense of community.
With my experience, reliability, and understanding of what effective communication looks like, I am ready to take on this role and make a real impact. I want to create a social media presence that students can rely on—one that keeps everyone informed, engaged, and included.
