Arleen Dhillon

Presidential Candidate

Campaign Platform

My decision to run for President is rooted in a clear goal: to build a student association that is not only active, but effective, transparent, and genuinely representative of the Faculty of Arts. Students deserve an organization that listens, communicates clearly, and delivers meaningful change. As President, I am committed to strengthening FASA both in how it operates internally and how it serves students externally.

A central focus of my platform is reforming FASA’s policies and governance structures. While FASA plays an important role in student life, many of its internal processes are not as accessible, efficient, or transparent as they should be. Policies can be difficult to navigate, and students are often unaware of how decisions are made or how they can engage with them. I will lead a comprehensive review of FASA’s policies to ensure they are clear, publicly accessible, and aligned with student needs. This includes simplifying procedures, addressing outdated policies, and creating stronger accountability measures. A well-functioning internal structure is essential and without it, even the best ideas cannot be implemented effectively.

Alongside internal reform, I am committed to strengthening student advocacy in a way that is visible and results-driven. Too often, students feel disconnected from decision-making spaces or unsure of where their concerns can be directed. As President, I will prioritize creating consistent and accessible channels for student input, while ensuring that feedback leads to tangible outcomes. This means not only gathering student perspectives, but also clearly communicating what actions are being taken in response. Advocacy should produce real change that students can see and trust.

Part of this commitment includes improving how information flows between the Faculty and students. I will work closely with faculty leadership to ensure that students receive accurate, relevant, and timely information about changes within their departments whether they’re academic, administrative, or program-related. Too often, important updates are unclear, delayed, and inconsistently communicated. I will establish a clearer and more reliable communication line between the Faculty and students, making it easier for students to stay informed and better understand how changes impact their academic experience.

Another key priority is improving transparency and communication between FASA and the student body. Students should not have to search for information about what their student association is doing. I will implement regular, structured updates that outline ongoing initiatives, decisions, and progress throughout the year. By making information more accessible and consistent, FASA can foster greater trust and encourage more students to engage with its work.

In addition, I aim to strengthen the sense of community within the Faculty of Arts. While the faculty is incredibly diverse, many students experience their degrees in isolation, without meaningful opportunities to connect with others outside of their immediate programs. FASA has the ability to bridge this gap by creating more intentional spaces for connection. I will work to support initiatives that bring students together across disciplines, whether through collaborative events, networking opportunities, or informal spaces that encourage interaction.

Finally, I am committed to ensuring that FASA remains grounded in equity, accessibility, and representation. Every student should feel that they can participate in and benefit from what FASA offers. This includes considering barriers related to cost, scheduling, and inclusivity when planning initiatives, as well as actively working to amplify diverse voices within the faculty. To me, being President is about taking responsibility for improving the systems that shape student experience. I am running with a focus on structural change, clear communication, and meaningful advocacy.
