Campaign Platform
My platform points are (1) mobilizing the faculty of arts students to bring awareness about and fight the budget cuts; (2) improving the Arts academic experience through student involvement, (3) to foster equity, diversity, inclusion and a welcoming environment for everyone in the faculty, (4) Familiarizing students about programs, journals, opportunities and many other initiatives that sometimes seem to be hiding from the Arts Student. Budget cuts display a lack of respect for our education. Because of budget cuts, there are fewer academic resources, larger class sizes, and fewer courses available. I will organize Arts students and advocate for our faculty through collaboration, student-led workshops, and defining our advocacy. Students should have a say in what and how they are taught. I will focus on creating student activities in the academic area and increasing student engagement through the channels and faculty communication, feedback, peer mentorship, academic resources, and collaborative learning spaces. My goal is to make the Faculty of Arts focus on the engagement and the issues of the students the most. The Faculty of Arts is very diverse, and that’s one of its greatest attributes. But if everyone does not belong, the diversity is not useful. I want to nurture student groups and promote the interactions to encourage collaboration in the communities to create a space where everyone is welcomed, respected, and included.
I would also like to mention my small but valuable experience in campus volunteering. I am no stranger to FASA and its mission. Between October 2024 and April 2025, I was a member of the Communications Committee of FASA, mainly handling the photography during the events and editing them. During this time, I attended FASA’s meetings to get myself familiar with its council, constitution, agenda and many other things. After this time, I was invited to be a member of the committee again, but I had to decline because I was working towards opening a club with some other student leaders I knew. In September of 2025, I started the Azerbaijani Students’ Association of UCalgary, where I led events of different sorts: professional-networking, cultural exchange, mixer events and many others. However, my biggest achievement during this time was the way I found funding for the club. I networked and went to meet professionals and business owners of Azerbaijani descent based in Calgary, many of whom were interested in funding the club. Also, I franchised AzSA with other Azeri student organizations, so we just don’t share the same logo and value,s but also the same funding. Therefore, the club I created has two funding Calgary based azeri professionals who contribute and also general Canadian Azeri student groups.
My resume also includes academic activism. I have been taking my time to peer-review in journals like the Insights and the Motley. During my time in these journals, I have been working closely with students, understanding that many students work towards academic achievement outside of class as well. If I get elected, another point I’d pursue would be familiarizing students with these faculty and student-driven opportunities, where students can get published and prove themselves outside of the classes as well.
