VP Events Candidate

Campaign Platform

FASA is a club that I hold dear to my heart. I have been a member for the past three years and have taken on various roles within the organization, including Assistant Director on the Student Engagement team, speaker, and currently, Director of Events and Student Engagement. Through these experiences, I have witnessed the organization's changes and have contributed to the development of several initiatives. I believe it is only natural and beneficial for my personal and professional development to continue as the VP Events. My platform and goals include the following:

  1. Make events accessible for students

  2. Build connections through student input and engagement

  3. Create events that prioritize student development and growth

Firstly, I aim to make events more accessible for students, including the end-of-year arts gala. I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to attend events that either require tickets or occur after school hours, especially when students often have work commitments. No student should have to choose between socializing and making connections or paying rent. To address this, I plan to advocate for reduced ticket prices for art students attending the art gala, explore partnerships to provide students with gala outfits, and create events at more accessible times, such as during the day. Additionally, I will propose low-budget, casual monthly socials that students can drop into. I will also ensure that events are accessible to those who are neurodivergent or require special accommodations by considering various needs and making necessary space adjustments, which will be further elaborated upon in the community pillar.

Secondly, I want to enhance communication through student input and engagement. Making my platform accessible means catering it to students and strengthening community bonds. Over the past few years, I have observed a lack of connection between the executive board and the student body, with many students unaware of who serves on the board. To address this, I will not only seek feedback from my team but also open channels for students to share their ideas for events and ways we can better meet their needs. This will include QR codes linked to feedback forms after events, providing behind-the-scenes glimpses into event planning to increase transparency and student involvement, as well as monthly updates from the VP of Events to help students feel more connected.

Lastly, I plan to introduce fresh, creative, and enriching event ideas that are also sustainable. I want to balance the diverse interests and needs of students by continuing successful initiatives such as FASA Café, Market Night, and networking events while also adding volunteering opportunities for students to engage with the broader community. Additionally, I will create events that help students grow and develop their skills, such as workshops. To enhance collaboration, I aim to partner with more student clubs, including the VP External and Academic, to brainstorm diverse event ideas. I want to move beyond typical meet-and-greet events to create more dynamic experiences with a purpose. I also want to ensure that the events we are hosting are sustainable and ethical without being too wasteful.

Throughout my four years at university, I have participated in numerous club events and served on the executive boards of various organizations. I have seen which events resonate with students and have collaborated with many individuals to cater to their needs. Over the past year, I have been fortunate to assist and be mentored by the current VP of Events while hosting events. Through innovation, communication, and a community-centered approach, I aim to further grow and revitalize the club, enhance the arts community, and provide university students with the enriching university experience they deserve. Although these are ambitious plans, these changes are what’s needed to push the club forward, and I’m confident I will be able to make these changes in collaboration with the very capable executive board up ahead! This is a non- exhaustive list of my goals; I am more than happy to chat about my platform if you have any feedback!
