Campaign Platform

Vision:

A financially strong, transparent, and collaborative Faculty of Arts Students’ Association where every executive, representative, and student is confident resources are managed responsibly and with integrity. As Vice President of Finance, I will work to ensure that our financial systems not only function smoothly but support the interests and well-being of the Arts undergraduate students at the University of Calgary.

Goals:

1. A realistic, responsible budget, approved in a timely manner

FASA’s budget supports events, initiatives, and programs within the club that inform and assist undergraduate arts students. I will:

  • Build a budget grounded in data, historical spending, and current student needs.

  • Consult with executives and department representatives early to avoid last-minute delays.

  • Connect with the administrators in the Faculty of Arts regularly to discuss budget needs.

  • Present a clear, well-justified budget that can be approved efficiently and confidently.

  • Ensure the budget reflects FASA’s values: accessibility, equity, and support for student life.

2. Accurate, consistent, and transparent bookkeeping

Students, executives, and the faculty deserve to know how the budget is being used. I will:

  • Maintain up-to-date financial records accessible to the executive team and faculty administrators.

  • Implement easy-to-use budgeting templates for departments within the club to use for events, initiatives, and programs.

  • Use templates to simplify reimbursement and tracking.

  • Ensure accountability and address questions through regular financial reporting.

  • Avoid over-spending.

Strategy:

1. Building a strong, supportive Finance team

A VP Finance is only as effective as the team behind them. I will:

  • Hire a diverse team of directors with strengths in communication and administration.

  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations of directors.

  • Foster a collaborative environment where team members feel confident taking initiative and communicating concerns.

  • Create clear workflows so tasks are completed efficiently and consistently.

2. Strengthening communication across FASA

Financial clarity depends on strong relationships and communication. I will:

  • Provide opportunity for regular check-ins with executives and department representatives to stay aligned on priorities.

  • Offer departments within FASA proactive guidance on budgeting and reimbursement procedures.

  • Develop easy-to-understand financial guides to reduce confusion and delays.

  • Ensure that financial decisions are communicated clearly, respectfully, and promptly.

3. Building strong relationships with Faculty of Arts administrators

Financial strength requires essential relationships with the faculty. I will:

  • Work closely with Faculty of Arts administrators to streamline approval processes.

  • Ensure compliance with FASA and SU Club policies.

  • Seek opportunities to secure additional funding or support for student initiatives.

  • Maintain open, professional communication to keep FASA’s financial operations running smoothly.

A well-run finance portfolio doesn’t just keep the books balanced, it also enables FASA to host events, supports student advocacy, and strengthens the entire Faculty of Arts community. With accountable systems, consistent budgeting, and strong collaboration, we can create an environment where everyone feels informed, supported, and heard.

I’m running for Vice President of Finance because I believe FASA deserves financial leadership that is organized, transparent, and deeply committed to club and student success. I believe that accountable budgeting and financial management is an essential pillar in the empowerment and success of arts students at the University of Calgary. Together, we can build a financial foundation that empowers every representative and student in the Faculty of Arts.
